Las Vegas: Lunch at Kimchi Korean

I can’t believe I turned into someone who looks for familiar food when traveling.  Sure, I’m still very adventurous and love to try new food but when I’m away, I get a terrible craving for Asian food. Chinese, Korean, Japanese, hell, I’ll even do Thai (only if it’s not just your pad thai/ curries spot). I can never get enough noodles. Or dumplings.

So for lunch in Las Vegas I started searching for the nearest and best Asian food near my hotel. Turns out I wasn’t desperate enough to pay $20+ for fried rice. Not when I think I make the best fried rice. So that left me with Kimchi Korean BBQ. I had seen actual bus loads of people drop off presumably Korean folks for years. I figured going for lunch was safe enough.

I was pleasantly surprised to find we can load up on the banchan even if we weren’t doing Korean BBQ. I got just about every type of seaweed you can find along with my beloved kimchi. To round out the meal, I also got salad.

The salad came with the familiar and great light citrus dressing.

At first I thought about getting a jigae (stew) but settled on the soon dobu (tofu soup). Unlike tofu houses in LA, you didn’t really have a choice of what went into your tofu soup. The standard version here has a bit of beef, shrimp and other seafood. I asked for medium spicy which wasn’t very spicy at all.

My friend ordered the bibimbap and I was immediately jealous of her great looking bowl. I went back a couple of days later and had the beef and kimchi bowl. It sounds pretty much as the description. Oh why didn’t I order the bibimbap?

Next time, Vegas.
