Ready for more brews and pork?
Nepenthia may have come and gone but it was like a sneak preview for Pig Out 2 . 100 Eats presents his popular Pig Out food festival featuring all things pork. Like Nepenthia, this event benefits the charity Inspire Artistic Minds (IAM) he started to help culinary and artistic students achieve their passions. Pig Out 2 is coming soon on Sunday, August 25. The event will be held at California Scenario in Costa Mesa from 3-7 PM but VIP tickets include early admission at 2 PM for a cocktail reception.
pulled pork from Hopscotch
Hopscotch was at Nepenthia serving a deliciously spicy pulled pork. They’ll be returning to Pig Out 2 along with Broadway by Amar Santana, Juliette’s Kitchen and Bar, A Restaurant, The Attic on Broadway, Side Door, and Pizzeria Mozza. More vendors will be announced soon.

Nepenthia turned out to be a sunny but a bit chilly day. It’s a good thing there were many beers to try. I usually drink dark beers like porters and stouts but my favorite this day turned out to be an Imperial Red. I’m glad I tried it because I’d be willing to break out of my dark beer box for at least the summer.

You can definitely tell which of the booths got the most love with long lines at the special tasting of Nepenthia beer from Noble Ale Works, sliders from Wild Goose and waffles from Iron Press.
Elk Youth
Music abounded and we were entertained while in line by such groups as Elk Youth. I loved the giant tic tac toe game, chalk artist and although not “art,” founder Bobby Navarro’s creative way to rope off the park. He stuck plants in planters with sand and then wrapped the park with chicken wire. Note to bars and restaurants who want to have their patrons be able to “drink outdoors,” this is how you keep things a “private event.”

Plus, all ticket holders are entered into a drawing to win a liquor cabinet start-up package.
